First of all, let me say that all three of those women are gorgeous, beautiful and amazing just the way they are. That said, there is obviously such a thing as being too sensitive. Do people really think a company like Dove is idiotic enough to put out blatantly racist ads? In business terms, doing that would effect your bottom line severely, especially if you are marketing heavily towards women. Even if Dove was run by a bunch of ignorant racists, they still wouldn’t put out an ad that was racially charged. They make soap, for cryin’ out loud!
This speaks to a larger problem that the PTB are going to exploit if we don’t nip it in the bud. Certain entities in this country intentionally flirt with racism. While it’s true that there are some flat-out racists out there, this recent rash of racially-tinged news is clearly more to exploit/divide people than it is promoting racism. Certain people (with no morals or scruples) love to exploit white guilt and vigorously attempt to put women and minorities “in their place.”
Truth be told, I don’t believe this is that dastardly of a deed. I think it speaks to the over-sensitivity in this country. The term “PC” already makes most people gag. This is a prime example of why. Hell, I wouldn’t be shocked at all if the person who leaked this story (or, more accurately, ‘created’ it) was working for Ivory or some other brand.
