The fact that we have to debate whether to do something that will benefit 98% of the people in this country is ridiculous. This issue (more than most) shows how completely inept, corrupt and non-functioning our government clearly is. I hope they realize that there are a VAST MAJORITY of us who make under 250K a year. I hope they also realize that we’re all not afraid and/or stupid.
You know that analogy about putting a wild animal in a corner? They’ve pushed us just about as far as we can go (my opinion? we hit that threshold a while ago). What’s going to happen when we’re completely backed into that corner, forced there by the people who we elected to help us out of it? I’m telling you politicians, pundits and big business: You don’t want a middle class that feels like a caged animal…and you are VERY close to that.
Representative Welch certainly seems to be one of the few politicians that can be truly honest about the situation. For that, he should be commended. However, we also know that politicians with his character are the exception and not the norm.
Of course, what do I know? I’m just a middle-class American trying to make it. I do know that if you keep ignoring people like me, you’ll leave us all with one, simple choice: Fight back with every last fiber of our beings…creatively and without reservation. 🙂
